By the Way ...
Bah Humbug, Valentine's Day
I had several conversations with people who read that article and changed their
Valentine's Day plans. My husband and I went out to dinner and a movie. My favourite
things to do! Oh yes, I also got flowers.

Feature Article: Feeling Better
Everything we do in life, we do because we think it will make us feel better in the long run. We may not be making the best choices, but we all steer in the direction of wanting to feel good.
So how do you feel?
Choose something specific and consider the thoughts that go through your mind when you think about this subject. Write them down if you can. Now write down how you feel about it. These thoughts that run through your mind, how do they make you feel?
Now that you have identified how you are feeling, your goal is to reach some thoughts about this subject that make you feel better. Your intention is to consciously improve the way you think about this subject.
Let's identify a few possible areas of concern and see how it works:
Thoughts: I have been binging on junk food for the last week. I don't seem to be able to stop myself. I have no control or discipline. At this rate I am never going to lose weight and will live the rest of my life overweight.
Searching for thoughts that make me feel better:
Thoughts: I never have enough money to do or buy the things I really want. Sometimes, I don't even have enough to get through the month.
Searching for thoughts that make me feel better:
Thoughts: I am so tired of winter. I don't think that I can stand one more day of it, let alone another 6-8 weeks.
Searching for thoughts that make me feel better:
Thoughts: I am so exhausted. I never have the energy to do the things I want to do. I can't remember the last time that I really felt good.
Searching for thoughts that make me feel better:
Start to think of 'feeling better' as a game tha you can play all of the time. Reach for thoughts that will make you feel better everytime you realize that you are not feeling great. When you feel ... down, depressed, angry, frustrated, guilty, worried ... etc.
Pay attention to the way you feel and deliberately choose thoughts that make you feel good. When your thoughts are optimistic, positive and empowering then you feel better and things can not help but improve. Guaranteed! Promise!
