By the Way ...

Some interesting feedback from the last newsletter's feature article "What's Your Story". One reader in particular is testing a story around her limited vision and has taken off her glasses. I have become quite sensitive to the fact that people tell us what their stories are by what they say. Just the other day, someone close to me said, "Well, I'm not a doer!" Interestingly enough, I have known this young woman all of her life and in her early years she was definitely a doer. When I challenged her, she thought for a second and said, "If I tell myself this story, then I don't have to do anything."

IMPORTANT - The deadline for viewing our 2005 newsletter archives is1/31/06. After this date they will not be available on the website so please take advantage of this opportunity to visit one last time.

Lastly, what are you focusing on in 2006? How are you planning to grow, what are you planning on learning? Remember your outcomes are determined by your expectations!

Last year I told you that I was going to be honing my Internet Marketing skills and said that I was looking for someone to help me. One of the first rules of manifesting is, "ask and you shall receive". Well I received ... two people came my way. Many thanks to Kevin Bidwell for showing me the way, and most recently Marija Popovic for helping me being it to reality. Marija and my project will be delayed for a few more weeks but you will be the first to know when it is up and running.

I am repeating last January's feature article - A Letter to My Children. I think that it bears repeating.

Feature Article: A Letter to My Children

Happy New Year! As I reflect on the past year it came to me that I needed to write each of you a letter sharing with you my philosophy or beliefs on life. I can see you each rolling your eyes … what tangent has Mom gone off on now? Nevertheless, use it to reflect on your past year and perhaps it will be useful when setting your goals for the brand new year … perhaps, if you are open to it.

Let me ask you a question. Are you where you want to be at this point in your life? I am referring to all aspects of your life … happiness, health, success, financial, relationships and attitude. You may say yes to some … I’m on track and no to others … I am totally de-railed there.

What I believe can really be summed up by the following statement. What you have at the moment you’ve attracted to you by the person you have become. You are responsible and not your circumstances for where you are in your life. It’s not your financial situation, your upbringing (definitely not that!), your love life or anything else that you bring to the table. It’s how you choose to see your world and the subsequent choices that you make every day. How you choose to spend your time, what you choose to focus on, what you choose to put in your mouth, the friends and acquaintances that you surround yourself with. We work perfectly to produce the results that we achieve. If you want different results, simply change how you see things, change your mind, change your thinking.

My advice to you for the upcoming year is as follows:

1. Quite literally engage life… absorb everything, be curious, seize each day, notice and respond to everything that happens. This is where your ideas, future projects and your personal opinions and philosophy come from.

2. Ask yourself each day, what did I learn, how did I make a difference for someone else today?

3. Establish a set of disciples that will give you the self-esteem and energy to act on your ideas. These disciplines can be in the area of self-care i.e. exercising, sleeping and eating habits, to communication and relationships, to how you spend your spare time, to what you think about.

4. Drama, drama, drama! Don’t major in minor things … they rob you of the energy and will to act on the things that are really important to you. Get rid of all of the toxins.

5. Get out of your own way … learn to spot where you sabotage yourself. I came across a great definition of failure the other day, “failure is a few errors in judgment repeated everyday. You, of course, know that I don’t believe in failure … it’s only feedback. The process is a ladder, learn from the feedback - move up a rung.

6. Learn to work harder on yourself than you do on anything else; read, listen to tapes, journal, have conversations, never stop learning.

7. Bring added value to everything you do, whether it is bringing a positive attitude to your job, giving a little extra on a project, or going out of your way for someone else.

8. Lastly have faith! I believe in ‘ask and you shall receive’ or to paraphrase Mick Jagger, ‘you don’t always get what you want, but you get what you need’. Determine what you want, ask for it, and trust that you will get what you need. Stand back and watch what happens … it’s always interesting!

Where am I on this continuing ladder? Like you I am forever a student, some of this I’ve mastered and other areas I’m still working on. I do know that I am someone who helps other people ‘get better at living’ – a teacher, if you will. My job is to help direct the people who cross my path to the next rung of their particular ladder. You are going to be crossing my path your whole life which gives me endless opportunities to help direct you - sorry!

Each of you have accomplished major goals this past year. I’m proud of you, not just for what you have accomplished but also for who you are becoming. All of you have interesting ideas and opinions, are compassionate and care about what you do.

Much love and best wishes for the upcoming year.
Mom
